Message intercooler. In fact, you can increase certain dimensions and actually decrease it's overall effectiveness (that's one of the reasons the large long runner FMIC design actually isn't as effective as a good SMIC. It's how and where it's bigger. Most of the intercooling effect takes place in the first few inches of the runner that moves the charge air. After a certain length, the pressure drop of long runners greatly outweighs the minimally extra cooling. Also, I believe that because of the cross flow design of our engines, that a front mount also disrupts the airflow from one bank to the other (I'm not familiar enough with those flow characteristics to explain the problem beyond that). I read a great "primer" type article on [ www.bellintercoolers.com ] under their FAQ page. I won't regurgitate the info contained in their article, but I found it to be highly informative and explained some myths about design and gave me a fairly decent (basic) understanding of intercooler dynamics. Take care, Mark
